Today, insight gained from geographic analysis is being used to revolutionise the management of workforces in both private and public sectors. It makes it possible to strategically balance the supply of skills relative to geographic demand. At a tactical level, GBI can optimise the day-to-day allocation of resources.
This is because using GIS organisions can optimise the location of skills and resources. Having done so, their, delivery can also be scheduled for least cost and balanced for service levels. This goes beyond the conventional logistics approach.
During its recent wide-ranging business transformation programme, for example, the UK's Meat Hygiene Service turned to GIS to make its service as smart as possible. The geographic intelligence it discovered helped to allocate its mobile workforce strategically across the whole of Great Britain, optimising service levels nationwide.
