Minimising Environmental Impact

Minimising Environmental Impact

The need to minimise environmental impact is a high priority for many businesses today. Compliance in particular is compelling many companies to monitor and reduce their carbon emissions, physical waste, power consumption and more besides.

Through GBI, you have the tools to identify, model, reduce and manage your environmental impact with ease.

Environmental management is all about a company’s effects on its surroundings. So it makes perfect sense that the strategic geographic insight delivered through GBI is ideal for measuring, managing and minimising those effects.

  • By 2015, Manchester Airport plans to be carbon-neutral. It’s currently studying heating loss from buildings, and testing a variety of on-site energy generation tools – including wind turbines, ground source heat pumps and solar panels. GIS from ESRI (UK) is critical for deciding the optimal location of these facilities, and modelling their impact on the airport.

  • Within Masdar City, meanwhile, ESRI GIS helps technologists and planners increase energy savings and minimise carbon emissions during the build. Cutting-edge ‘6D’ GIS modelling is being used to track costs, schedules and carbon emissions, and empowering collaborative thinking for creative problem-solving. GIS will also underpin an automated, paperless asset management system when the new city is up and running, thus extending the city’s life.
